You may not be pregnant at this moment, but if you were, and you were considering taking childbirth education classes... 1. What type of classes would you like to have available?
Early Pregnancy - A class covering nutrition, exercise, physical and psychological changes, symptoms of prenatal problems, precautions to take, fetal development, and choosing a care provider. General Childbirth - A class covering physical and psychological changes, fetal development, stages and phases of labor, effective relaxation and pain coping techniques, medical options and practices, cesarean delivery, postpartum concerns, and newborn care. Active Childbirth - A class covering how to communicate with your care provider, writing an effective birth plan, choosing your birth team, preventing posterior babies and other malpositions, understanding the risks and benefits of common interventions and labor drugs (while not discounting them as a viable option), gaining trust in and working with your birthing body, and in-depth practice of coping techniques such as breath awareness, movement, massage, visualization, vocalization, and aromatherapy. Natural Childbirth - A class for parents wishing to go all natural, planning a home birth, or a drug free, intervention-free hospital birth. This class would incorporate many of the pain coping techniques of the active childbirth class with an emphasis on working with your body and understanding the benefits of labor. In addition herbals and essential oils as well as acupressure techniques will be covered. Christian Childbirth - A class for parents wishing to embrace the Christian Faith as a source of strength and encouragement throughout pregnancy and birth. Devoted to birth issues from a Biblical perspective, the class will be designed to help one prepare for labor while drawing near to God. Included will be topics such as “how faith impacts labor”, “how Biblical principals direct our decision making process“, and “how faith helps one handle the pain and challenges of labor”. Gender Specific - Women Only class - A general childbirth class for anyone (whether by culture, necessity, or preference) who would like to prepare for pregnancy, labor and birth in a secure, non-intimidating all female environment. Subject Specific Classes - choose and invest in only the specific topical classes you wish to attend. Each class would consist of 1 meeting of approximately 2-3 hours.
